I love this...

This is one of Julian's early Postcards in my collection I treated myself to as a souvenir of a peaceful holiday spent in Bédoin.

Erratum

Just to let you know that I changed the post about Beth's new friend a little...There are lots of Andy's in our lives but Beth's Andy is not a lecturer. He is, on the other hand, a graduate of Moorlands College (University of Gloucester) where Beth is hoping to go in September. A completely different Andy, who used to be pastor of our church and is a good friend of both Beth and her Andy, is now a faculty head there and is very likely to be one of Beth's lecturers next year on her degree course...

Nice tea, Da. We sure polished off that Battenburg!

Pete
Hi Dad, I glad you have had gifts, birthday tea and visitors and are now sitting with your feet up with 'The Hairy Bikers'. Sounds like fun!
I thought that I would let you know that not only has Gemma sent you birthday greetings on facebook(Patrick Hugh Merrow-Smith), but on your other facebook account(Patrick Merrow-Smith)you have birthday greetings from Will and Barbara....Just thought that you would like to know.
Also, I thought that you should know that Kate bought the birthday card for you, but they were in a panic when they found out that you wouldn't be with us for your birthday
so Thomas took control of the situation and slipped the card into your bag...credit where credit is due...lots of love Cathy xx

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

I have just waved farewell to Pete and Jan, plus Beth and Amy who brought me some Chocs and White Wine and all the goodies necessary for a birthday tea. Bread from her new breadmaker which is lovely, plus cakes and things.
Pete and Jan set tea in my dining room and it was lovely.
Beth has a new boyfriend (Andy) who wanted her to wait until she was 18 before declaring his love. He is 24 and a graduate of the college in Bournemouth where Beth is going to study. Good Eh?
It was lovely to see them again. Amy will be 10 in September.
They are hoping that I will go with them to see The Mikado, which is being held in Chinnor (or Thame) next week. Things is looking up. Dad

I FORGOT TO TELL YOU

When Mum and I visited John and Joan Partridge a few years ago, in my Rover 216 GT, There was also a similar car in the drive. Guess what car was in the driveway yesterday -- A Skoda Fabia Comfort Automatic. Funny init? He is such a LAND ROVER man normally. Now there's a thing.

THANK YOU NIC FOR SKYPING ME

I could see you OK, but sorry I was not very clear to you. The thought counts. Love to you all from Granddad XXXX

Gemma facebooked me !!

I feel wonderful. 85 next year!!

Thanks Guys - i only feel 84. Thanks for the choccies, Cath. They have all gone now. Thanks Steve for the photy's of the dogs. They look so lovely.
I had a welcome card from Swansea University. Thanks Edmund.

Celebrations

I've just celebrated your birthday by making pancakes - if I'd known you were only 84 I wouldn't have bothered. I thought you were born in '26... obviously, not unless you're trying to turn back the clocks ;-))

Birthday Greetings

lots of love from Steve
and the doggies!

Happy Birthday Dad

Another fine spring morning and twenty one again!!
I hope you found John Partridge well yesterday, and then had a good trip home.
I expect you to tell everyone in the doctors waiting room that its your birthday and that your 85 you know!!!HaHaHa
It was lovely to have you here. All my love Cathy xxxxxx

THANK YOU JULIAN

i must have added on a year, as old men do but 2011 less 1927 is 84. Yes 84. But thanks anyway.

Dearest Cathy,
I enjoyed a three hour chat with my old friend John Partridge, in Blaen-y-Coed yesterday and was home by 7pm.
His daughter Shelagh lives in Devon, happily married but Megan, the younger of the two remaining lives in Abingdon with her FOURTH husband. You will remember that his youngest daughter was brutally murdered way back in my Chinnor days. His wife Joan never got over it and could never settle. She died two years ago.
Please thank your lovely TomTom for his birthday card, which found when I opened my bag. Thanks Tom, and thanks for adding Kate and Edmund. You are three smashers. I love you all.
Thank you, Cath for the packet of goodies. I look forward to a smashing roast pork dinner later on.
Thank you all for making my weekend so enjoyable, even though it was quite cool.
My little Ice Cream Skoda was brilliant, and so easy to drive. Bye now! Granddad.

The 29th

I do believe it's your birthday today Dad, happy 85th and hope you can blow out all those candles in one go!

lots of love, Julian

Dad.s Got a new mota!!

Pete and I were talking cars the other evening, and we both thought we would like an Automatic small car,
Well, I have done it. An Ice Cream Skoda Automatic. A Fabia. Mum would never agree to an automatic as she was afraid I would crash into a shop window or dive off a cliff edge as has happened in the not too distant past, An old man careered off the prom in Ventnor and killed a small child.on the beach! I'll have to be very careful!!!. Very nice quiet little car 1400 c. I'll try to get down to Nythfa next weekend. Love to all Dad

all together now!

Tennessee Waltz

I was dancin' with my darlin' to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced her to my loved one
And while they were dancin'
My friend stole my sweetheart from me.

I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my little darlin' the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz.

(Instrumental Interlude)

I was dancin' with my darlin' to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced her to my loved one
And while they were dancin'
My friend stole my sweetheart from me.

I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz

Hurrah! I'm back on the blogger!

Back in with the beautiful people, Thanks Steve x

Lanny's back!

Discovery Engine has been fitted so we're running on diesel or perhaps biodiesel.

Just seen Nicky Cook on the telly

She was looking into the past relatives of Film Actor Michael York, in the old Chapel in Llandovery.
I knew she was an anthropologist. Nice to see her.
His father went to Llandovery College and did very well at Rugby under the name of Griffiths Johnson. He then went on to Lampeter and on to Oriel Colloege in Oxford.
His relatives were Griffiths and his Granma was Mary Griffiths, a local Midwife.
Lloyds Bank was called the Black Horse.
