VE-DAY

This day, in 1945 was the end of hostilities in Europe. I was 18 years old.
We were in Crillon le Brave on this day 9 years ago and we saw a whole crowd of villagers marching through the village. They remembered, but did we? We also went through one or two towns near Avignon and the Town squares were full of French people who had been celebrating. The Hotels de Ville was flying the tricolour and everyone was happy, though sad to remember all their lost friends and relatives. We were all so lucky that our war had finished, but the Japs were still holding out in the Far East, and it was 3 months later when the atomic bombs were dropped, to end the Japanese war on 15th August - VJ Day!
I had joined the Royal Navy on 31st May 1945 - that did it. Love from G
