Dear Mum and Dad
I've switched off the handphone, left the technology in Singapore; ignoring the emails, the blogs and the online communities and come away to paracuse - just me and Jen. Even the children didn't get an invite. We have two days and nights to soak up the atmosphere here and relax, forget our concerns and just enjoy peace and tranquility.
It is so nice, not to be waking up on a building site for once - such is the nature of Singapore and particularly our street. The view as I write on a morning that is cool and breezy, heavy with cloud, is only one that our Creator himself could have crafted. I can just see the two ends of this horseshoe bay with small limestone islets clustered across the entrance to the lagoon. Casannas soften the 2-5 kilometre shoreline, and at low tide, such as now, a sand bar carves its way to the larger of the 3 islets.
The food has been excellent and the service exceptional - we've really enjoyed it and feel at times as if we are .in someone's house as guests. There's a reading room, where yesterday we had high tea, a Spanish restaurant where, on Friday night we dined on the beach in the moonlight, full moon too, and there's a spa where we will spend the entire afternoon today before heading home.
Thank you for ringing Ivy last week, she mentioned it.
Normality has returned after the disruption of last week when dear Grandma Peck passed away, early on Saturday afternoon at the age of 98.
(I have left out a lot of Nic's personal thoughts from here)
Nic's letter continues;- "Funerals are stressful times, so things can easily be overlooked or comments may not reflect how one has felt previously; we should all be remembering the good times and the person in their youth and not as a frail, derelict body".
I hope Nic will not be offended at sharing his thoughts on a family blog, but I was so touched by his writing.
Dad
