Been given the bird....
Today a man with a dog gave the girls a fledgling sparrow that his dog was taking too much interest in. 'He' is unharmed and a plucky little fellow who chirps away and shows no signs of keeling over like all those sparrows we used to try to save. Time will tell, but at present he is taking porridge from a spoon and sleeping like a baby. His feathers are well developed but he cannot fly yet, even though he tries. Must be about 18 days old, according to my ornithology books. I don't suppose he will stay around much longer as his strength is increasing. Soon he will discover flying...then he's on his own. Great thrill to get him to eat porridge by chirping at him. The girls are over-joyed to have a little feathery furry to look after...walking in the footsteps of grandma Rowe! Photos to follow perhaps? (...but experience says let's not get too excited!)
