Memory Lane

Twas 34 years ago in 1970 that a few Chinnor bandites met up at the New Forest for 'Carry On Camping2' and we were there weren't we kids?
Hugh (Dad) got hold of a camping trailer an army surplus ridge pole tent and we all went down to 'Appy 'Ampshire in the new Zephyr6 (bestcar Ford ever made)... I was fifteen so was especially pleased that Henry and Jean Smith were there with daughters Fay and Gloria.....hep hem!
Jean and Henry had a wind up gramophone and at least one record "The Laughing Policeman" and on the 'B' side 'Alice where art though?' (Cornet Solo) accompanied by Man sucking a lemon.
Anyone? Am I making this up?
I remember going logging with Don Gomme for some camp fire-wood (ooh get you)and bringing back an entire tree.. Mike Gomme was there too and some of the Pullens, Redwoods, Pegrams flippin'eck. Who else?
Singsongs and pyrotechnics..brilliant!
There was a bit of difficulty fitting a tow-bar to the new car, the big car! but hey that's what swearing was invented for, to make things fit that never would!
We went swimming in the Solent without realising there was an oil refinery round the bay and emerged from the briney with an oily rime round our chins which needed wiping off before we were allowed back in the car.

So anyway Henry recently reached the g.o.a. of 90 and Gloria organised a do for him which Mum and Dad and I were delighted to attend. Here's the grand ol'man after we'd all sung "I'm 'Enery the Eighth I am!". That's Fay's boy Jon, then Gloria's 2 Nic and Sarah, Henry Gloria and Fay.Seated is Tony Benham(SallyB's Dad) and wife Penny(Tristram's Mum) with Mum and Dad in foreground.
