The Aviator

Well, we did get to see this film. We saw the 1pm showing on Sunday as we had been to church on Saturday evening. It was a fabulous film, atarting with his filming of "Hell's Angels" and thankfully ending some 2 hours plus later, and before he goes into his final decline in the darkened room - although we did see a bit of "darkened room" before he attended Alan Alda's committee hearing in Washington. We thought LdeC did a wonderful job as Hughes, We also admired Cate Blanchett as Katherine Hepburn (I am reading Kate Hepburn's life story entitled ME!) Another Kate (Beckinsale) did a fine interpretation of Ava Gardner - I must admit I didn't connect Jude Law with the Erroll Flyn character - I'll have to see it agaon. How he managed to crashland his own designed airplane (a twin boom fighter) and get up to walk away and how the producers managed to crash another plane on to Beverley Hills was amazing filming. The end of the film where we see his piloting of his 8 engined flying boat Hercules (popularly nicknamed the Spruce Goose) built for the transport of troops but too late for the WWll, and almost the last of the piston engined planes before the onset of jet travel, was wonderful. How did they do it?? A marvellous film..
