Correfocs

The correfocs was a good evening. I went down to Alfas with Jessica and Bethany to get involved. It was the same group doing it that Jan and I saw two years ago and it was pretty impressive.

A band of drummers and pipe players preceeds the main party of flame throwing monks who set out to try to get everyone dancing by running at you like this...








Then they all start spraying catherine wheels about and you have to try to get underneath them, like this...














At various points, as you follow a route through the town, you get fireworks displays where the main objective it to take a shower of sparks













The guy who is dressed in jeans with a scarf on his head to the left on one of these pictures is actually the Mayor of Alfas!













Here we are getting involved (Jessica in red)













Occassionally they send the bulls in to chase and disperse the crowds!








and this is at the end when the monks do a finale on the stage amid a huge spread of roman candles...
