Ed8 abdicated Dec 1936, made Duke of Windsor in March 37 and married WS in May 1937. They were ostracised by the Royals, virtually exiled and lived in Paris, only returning to UK on one or two special occasions. There was talk of a friendship with Hitler that would get him the Throne back if Germany won the War. Annie and Daisy were in Royal service at Hampton Court I think and on their living room wall was an enormous china plate (about 18" to 20" across) with, I seem to remember large birds - swans, igrets, cranes or herons up to their ankles in water. Must have been worth a bit.
